The Flying Boxcars will hit the road to take part in three exhibition games prior to their Atlantic League opener on April 25th at the York Revolution. The spring training campaign will begin on Saturday, April 20th, when the Flying Boxcars take on the reigning champion Lancaster Stormers. Following the trip up North, the Boxcars will play two games against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, before gearing up for their opening series.
Game 1: @ Lancaster Stormers (4/20/24): 10-9 W
The Flying Boxcars’ bats were hitting early on, as Magneuris Sierra registered a leadoff single, followed by an immediate double via Abiatal Avelino. Despite the aggressive start, the Boxcars fell behind and found themselves in a hole, down 9-3 in the 7th inning, before their luck would turn. Welington Dotel, an Atlantic League stud, hit a grand slam in the 8th inning, to tie up the game at 9, before Hagerstown’s own Ozzie Abreu sealed the deal with a solo homer in the 9th to win it for the Boxcars. Other key performers on the night included Wilber Perez, who recorded a perfect 6th inning, Enrique Santana with a perfect 8th, and Chase Solesky who registered two strikeouts and a pop out to center field to record a perfect 9th and the save. Eury Perez notched two hits on the night, with three runs batted in.
