Hagerstown Flying Boxcars Introduce New Sensory Room at Meritus Park
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The Hagerstown Flying Boxcars are proud to announce the opening of the new Sensory Room at Meritus Park, providing a safe, quiet space where children and adults can take a moment to reset before returning to enjoy a night at the ballpark.
The new sensory room is the latest step in the Flying Boxcars’ commitment to creating a more welcoming and inclusive experience for every fan. The organization recently took the initiative to become a certified sensory-friendly venue through Kulture City, providing sensory bags at Fan Services that include headphones, strobe-light-reduction glasses and sensory toys for fans who may benefit from them.
The Boxcars wanted to take that commitment one step further with the creation of a dedicated sensory room at the ballpark.
The new space provides children and adults with an opportunity to step away from the sights, sounds and activity of the ballpark when needed, take a moment for themselves, and return to enjoying the game when they are ready.
The initiative would not have been possible without the incredible support and partnership of Landon’s Project, along with the Arc of Washington County, Morgan-Keller, Wade Architecture, and the many contractors and community partners who helped bring the vision to life.
“We are incredibly grateful to Benito and Landon’s Project and all of our community partners, especially Morgan Keller, Wade Architecture, and the Arc of Washington County who helped make this vision a reality,” said Maggie Piazza, Community Relations and Foundation Coordinator. “Our goal is to make Meritus Park a place where every fan and every family feels comfortable, supported and included, and the Sensory Room is an important step in that commitment.”
The Flying Boxcars extend their sincere thanks to everyone who contributed their time, resources and expertise to the project and helped create a space where more families can feel comfortable and supported at the ballpark.
The Sensory Room is part of the Flying Boxcars’ continued dedication to providing a positive and inclusive experience for every fan at Meritus Park.
